Product Review - Kombucha Starter Kit & Dispenser
Justin reached out a couple months ago with some questions about homebrewing kombucha, and we had to admit we weren't able to provide much first-hand advice. However, we dug in and found suppliers for equipment and SCOBYs and Justin did his own research on the process. Justin was kind enough to send the following note. We've added in a few product links to make it easier to see the products Justin is referencing. Thanks for the review Justin!
Kombucha Starter Kits and Ingredients
"Dear Oregonized Brewing,
Thanks so much for your help getting me started brewing my own Kombucha. I've been spending over $100 a month on Kombucha made here in Oregon and now I'll be saving that much drinking Kombucha made in my kitchen.
Your starter kit was helpful and simple to use. I was thankful that the starter kits came with a bottle with a spigot, because it makes filling the bottles for the second fermentation very easy. Regarding set up, the spigot on the bottle needs to be tightened a little more than the average person can with their fingers and I suggest using a pair of pliers or small crescent wrench. The other items in the starter kit were all helpful and gave me comfort that I would be successful. The scoby was ready to go and performed excellently. The directions on the scoby were simple and the whole process was easy enough for a pre-teen to follow.
I was able to view a half dozen YouTube videos regarding the second fermentation and bottling. For my first batch, I blended some blueberries with a pear, mixed in come concentrated fruit juice from the freezer and added a bit of sugar. I used recycled Kombucha bottles and caps for the second fermentation and left them on the counter for about 3 days before putting them in the fridge. They all performed well and I'm ready to tweak my process as the weather warms. I'm onto my second batch and intend to use some ginger in the recipe and hopefully my kids won't drink so much and I'll get more of the health benefits for myself 😊
Thanks so much to Oregonized Brewing for making this so easy and helping me save thousands of dollars over the next couple of years and helping me start a fun and healthy hobby that can benefit my whole family.
