
"RedditFest" - Festbier Extract Recipe
Had to step up and build a recipe kit for a Festbier to make good on an offer in a Reddit thread. So here is our "RedditFest" recipe and kit.

- FG: 1.012
- ABV: ~5.8%
- IBU: ~22
- SRM: ~6
- Fermentation Temp: 50–52°F primary, 35°F lagering
Ingredients:
- Fermentables
- 6.5 lb Pilsner DME (dry malt extract)
- 0.5 lb Caramunich I (30–35°L) - Steeping grain
- 0.5 lb Melanoidin malt (20–30°L) - Steeping grain
- Hops
- 1 oz Hallertau Mittelfrüh @ 60 min (~18 IBU)
- 0.5 oz Tettnanger @ 30 min (~4 IBU)
- 0.5 oz Hallertau Mittelfrüh @ Flameout (Aroma)
- Yeast
- Saflager W-34/70
- Additional Ingredients

- Whirlfloc or Irish Moss. Add @ 5 min

Brew Day:
- Standard extract brewing
- Steep Grains:
- Heat 2.5 gallons water to 155°F.
- Steep grains in a mesh bag for 30 minutes. Remove and drain gently.
- Boil & Add DME:
- Bring to a boil, then remove from heat to stir in DME.
- Return to boil and begin 60-minute timer.
- Hop Additions:
- Add hops according to schedule.
- Cool, Top Up, and Pitch Yeast:
- Chill wort to 65°F. Top up to 5 gallons.
- Aerate well and pitch yeast at appropriate temp.
- Ferment & Lager:
- Ferment ~2 weeks at 50–52°F, then cold crash and lager at 34°F for 4–6 weeks.

- Package:
- Carbonate to 2.4–2.6 vols CO₂. Bottle or keg and enjoy!
